Hendickson Method Spine Stretch

THE HENDRICKSON METHOD®

The Hendrickson Method® is an advanced technique of Manual Therapy combining massage with a new stroke Tom Hendrickson calls Wave Mobilisation® which evolved from him studying Eastern disciplines, with Joint Mobilisation and Muscle Energy Techniques (METs).

Effective in reducing pain or sensations being felt and held from Acute and Chronic conditions, helping patients to relax while addressing muscle imbalances and dysfunction when range of movement has become limited, by reducing trigger points which have become fibrous areas or adhesions stopping the natural glide of the muscle tissue or connective tissue of the tendon and ligaments.

The 3 elements of the Hendrickson Method® help by complementing each other by stimulating fluids to the tissues and joints, improving range of movement, releasing nerve pathways and strengthening the muscles, the source of the pain rather than just the symptoms are switched off which is the start of functional rehabilitation.

The Hendrickson Method® can benefit a majority of orthopaedic conditions:

Headaches TMJ and Neck Pain

Shoulder Dysfunction and Rotator Cuff Injuries

Back Pain and Restricted Mobility

Sciatica

Hip Dysfunction

Knee Pain and Dysfunction

Ankle and Foot Injuries including Plantar Fasciitis

Pain and Stiffness in the Wrist/Hand/Thumb and Fingers

Chronic Arthritis

The Hendrickson Method® is suitable for all ages, can be applied through clothing – not jeans, more gym type clothing, no oil used.

Sports Massage

SPORTS & REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Sports Massage is a deep manual massage, the prime purpose is to help decrease the stress and tension which builds up in the body's soft tissue during physical activity by increasing the bloods oxygen and assist in the removal of toxins from the muscles. When minor injuries, change of posture or movement pattern occur, massage can break down adhesions within soft tissues such as muscle, tendon and ligament effectively. It can help prevent a small niggle developing into a major condition.

Sports Massage is based on the Swedish massage and has combined the five strokes of Effleurage, Petrissage, Friction, Tapotement and Vibration with other techniques which can involve lengthening, compression, toning and trigger point work similar to Acupressure. The therapist can integrate the techniques during a treatment so the patient can get the optimum benefit and their well being and physical activity is improved.

Anyone can benefit from a Sports Massage, this therapy is not just for the sports person, people with physically demanding jobs and those who may have stress and tension created from occupational, postural and emotional circumstances.

Remedial Massage focuses on specific areas using specialised manual techniques to address the reduction of muscle spasm and muscular pain that occur in the injured
and compensating muscles so helping to correct function to injured or inhibited soft tissue – muscle, tendon and ligaments, thereby awareness of an area of tension within the body which has become acute is treated before it becomes a chronic condition where posture and gait is affected. This type of massage is utilised in clinics/home visits.

Mat Work Pilates

MAT WORK PILATES

Pilates is a corrective system of 34 movements designed to help address alignment of posture, being controlled by the breathing you are effectively working muscles from the inside out, helping to lengthen, strengthen, balance and co-ordinate each movement, the more you practice your concentration increases, you become aware of how you are centred – this is the wide band of midsection from your navel around to your lower back, extending from your lower ribs to just below your gluteals.

Pilates has been described as “movement flowing out from a strong centre”, movement is by nature continuous in daily life and flexibility and fluidity is achieved through the practice and precision of this system which Joseph Pilates had originally called “Contrology” because you focus your mind to control your body, by doing this the risk of injuries are reduced, and stamina is improved.

Audrey holds Pilates/Movement Therapy classes at Knowle British Legion on Monday and Thursday evening 6.15pm to 7.15pm, class is restricted to 12 participating.

Movement Therapy

MOVEMENT THERAPY

Movement Therapy or SMARTT Club really does offer a fresh approach to unlocking
the restricted areas we all hold, having over 20 years within the fitness industry Sarah
J Pitts work is based on alternative truths to those which the fitness industry is based
on.
Movement and mobility happens naturally everyday, your body's ability to co-
ordinate all its joints in all the directions they need. Its only when injured do we stop
and think regarding loss of movement.

S-Strength M-Mobility A-Agility R-Recovery T-Transformational T-Training Club
engages our mind and body, a stretch we do not like often signals a problem held
within that area, by holding that stretch and introducing movement gently and
consistently to that area in such a way that you are working the joint through its
degrees of movement range will result in altering your joint position, which in turn
will effect the rest of your body, often realigning structural dysfunction.

Any person or age group can do SMARTT Club it should happen as naturally as
breathing, with no effort. What is the biggest surprise is that such a simple concept
can have such an impact releasing muscles and structures which had switched off and
been overlooked.
